SUICIDE ALERT- do you know "derpy chuian"?

this is a bit of an emergency All Points.

if you know the user "derpy" or "derpy chuian" please, please please use your knowledge of his contact information to contact the EMTs. he has e-mailed me with a suicide note. i do not know derpy that well, and i do not have his contact information. i don't know why he picked me to tell, but he did.

hopefully he's going to be all right, but please don't assume that is the case. i'm not sure what state he lives in. if you know him, please do something because this is all i can do.

if you don't know him, keep him in your thoughts and hope for his safety.

on Sofurry (i've never heard of this site before) he's known as "Fur the Reanimator" and this is literally the only bit of information he gave me.

his last KNOWN ip connection to the MUD was from 75.90.113.218 which i think means he's in GEORGIA. i am attempting to contact his ISP now.

i've contacted the ISP and the local police department. as far as i know right now, derpy is still alive. i received an e-mail from him not long ago tell me to stop trying to get help to him. i can't do that, but it's good to see he's alive for now.

just received another email from derpy a few minutes ago, talking specifically about a gun in his hand and saying his ip was "jacked" and the police won't find him if they trace it. i'm really scared right now you guys.

as of this edit (6.30pm) derpy's talking to me via email and says he's 'lost resolve' to do it tonight. i still think he's pretty shaken up right now so if you do know him or can get there please, hurry over. i don't think he should be alone right now.

this is my last edit of the night. it's 10pm EST now. i got an email from derpy saying he was on the MUD, but by the time i got there he was gone. hope he's alright, i don't know if he is. since i have no way to contact him except via e-mail, i can't know. i'm too exhausted to keep up any longer and i need some sleep. but please keep derpy in your thoughts, because i don't know where he is or how he is right now. he hasn't responded back...

That was quite considerate and thoughtful of you to do. Once again, glad to know a person who cares so much.

That said, please don't ever do that to me if I am suicidal. I am too paranoid and would probably end up harming the people/police who came to rescue me.

Also, this may sound strange, but did this person have a valid reason for committing suicide? Not sure if you believe there is such a thing or not, but I do. Ehhhh on second thought, this probably isn't the place, so apologies if this offends. I guess I was just impressed by your response.

the simple fact of the matter is that regardless of what someone wants, if they send their suicide threat to me and i only TANGENTLY KNOW THEM, i'm going to involve the police and any other parties i can.

i've been taught to always take suicide threats seriously. i know this is the internet but either way, you can't take them lightly. if they're just a threat for attention and they're dismissed, people begin to think threats for attention are appropriate and that there's no repercussions for them. if they are serious, having dismissed them results in someone dead. it's just not a good idea.

i have no idea what their reasoning was, they refused to tell me after i got them talking through email for a while.

I didn't know who that was so there was nothing I could do, but I'm really glad you took that so seriously and made so much effort to intervene. I think the fact that they reached out to you meant they did want your help...I have known people who successfully committed suicide and how have attempted it and they gave no warning whatsoever. I've also had a friend attempt it and leave a note and we were able to intervene and save his life...a decade later, he is fine now, I think if someone does not want to be stopped or get help they won't give anyone a warning before they do it. It's obvious that you're someone who really cares about people and that's why they wrote specifically to you. I really hope they are still alive this morning ;__;

yeah. i knew that when i got the e-mail to begin with it was a cry for help (in spite of what they're saying now) for the same reason.

but now that some time has passed, i'm starting to feel a little angry about it. it looks (by the timestamps) like he actually waited at his computer to see what my reaction would be. almost like he was "testing" his e-friendships.

he's alive now. seems fine. like nothing happened. which furthers my thoughts on that matter, and furthers my anger as well...

It sucks when people abuse their friendships like that!! (Sucks even more that you got pulled into that kind of drama by someone who's not even close to you.) But you were right that you can't ever assume someone is not being serious. People pull crap like that for attention a lot, but even if you're 99% sure they aren't being sincere about the threats, you really don't want to risk the 1% chance they'll do it. Aside from it being terrible for anyone to die, you wouldn't want the guilt you'd have if you didn't make a real effort to stop them. I'm sorry you got subjected to all that stress, I'd definitely be angry too. At least you know you did the right thing though.
