inhuman update!
(with the inks on DA for y'all)

not a whole ton to say this week except OH MY GOD IT'S COLD?????? it's in the 50s in the morning now! is this normal for new england? if so, i'm not ready! stop becoming fall!! i was enjoying the warmth! stop noooooo i'm a lizard don't take my daystar from me noooooo

other than that uh...not a ton going on, haha. we need to get some repairs done on the car (blarf) and though transportation seems to be becoming an issue, i'm still really hoping to make it to fau next week. somehow. SOMEHOW.

in terms of site stuff, i also changed the blog to pull from the dreamwidth rss feed instead of the livejournal one. primarily cause lj's feed is really slow and a lot of hte time just outright crashes and this causes the site to just hang displaying a blank screen for...well, sometimes a full minute or more. which in turn causes my project wonderful code to return as "site down/code not found" which means i get spammed with email going YOUR ACCOUNT IS SUSPENDED. NO NEVERMIND IT'S BACK. NO NOW IT'S SUSPENDED AGAIN. NO WAIT NEVERMIND IT'S BACK AGAIN.

just annoying, really.

i also went to see the conjuring since i figure it's going to tank and be out of theatres in like, less than a week. it wasn't scary but it was atmospheric and period-accurate, both of which were enjoyable! though i did go in expecting ghosts and instead got your standard issue 'demon posession mothers and babies' crap. that was a bit of a disappointment. cast was pretty good at least. there is no conjuring in the conjuring.

now i have to wait til october for another horror movie. nooooooo how will i feed my addictionnnnnn

Inhuman update!
(and ayes, the inks are over on DA like normal)

yikes i have a bunch to talk about this week. maybe a bulletpoint list will be best to get through it?
-inhuman is now on inkoutbreak. add it or like it or vote, whatever you want!
-the smackjeeves awards are accepting nominees. inhuman is also on smackjeeves! if you like it, nominate it!
-you can purchase a fine and fuzzy nikitak scarf from the shop now. pics below :v
-new Unintentional Mishaps pages are on the way! also fairy tale, if i can find the time!
-the WINTER CHARITY DRIVE will start in the next couple days. i just need to finish the art for it!
-ren is purring.

there's two fantabulously funny fanarts this week, one by pink painter (aka talon/ryx) and one by chris. i do loves me some fanart haha

i drew a bunch, but i also made nikitak scarves. wanna see?

all safe for work )

i'd also love to talk about something the mars rover discovered, but currently whatever it is is underwraps. i hope it's live surface bacteria! that'd be amazing! but it could also just be bacteria which hitch-hiked from earth, or a faulty bit of equipment. as excited as i am, i am truly glad that NASA is double-checking their findings before releasing any details.

that's really all i got. i'll be back later in the week with charity drive information. in the meantime, it has still been a very harsh month and we're low on heating oil again, so please consider leaving a tip in the tipjar?

yeah okay that's all i got. later droogs.

Inhuman update!
(with the inks over on DA)

aaaaand back into the groove.
i mentioned this elsewhere, but i'm kind of messing around with a purple marker on this page trying to see if i can get it to render shadows on both characters and backgrounds a bit more...helpfully. as for the backgrounds, it didn't seem to accomplish much (perhaps i need a darker purple marker?) and on characters it worked - where i was bold enough to use it. still something i'm fiddling with.

let's see. in addition to the other site changes, i added three new comics to the links: trance, kyle & atticus and prequel. i've been reading all three for a while now, and only just got around to linking them. but check all three out. they're pretty good.

the cast page has been updated as well, and there still some things i need to work on getting functional with the new layout. if something breaks for you/is broken, please just let me know!

there's also fanart from Dying Dutchman and Delta93

but hey, who wants some the future is now! style news? YOU DO OF COURSE!

so as you (now) know, you couldn't exactly access the internet if you were in orbit in a space station. yes, life in zero g was harsh. and let's not fool ourselves, a lot of young would-be astronauts probably learned they couldn't get e-mail up there and decided "fuck it, i'll be a fireman instead." but this is a problem NO MORE!

recently, astronauts aboard the international space station successfully used a prototype interplanetary internet service (DTN) to drive a little lego robot around in germany. from space. through the internet.

the exciting thing about this is that this is a more secure method of transfering commands and information across space. see, when we send signals to say, the curiousity rover? they can get muddled, or mixed up, or take too long. DTN is an improvement upon that.

and it'd also mean that if you, say, lived on a martian colony? you could communicate with your internet pals back on earth. sure, the lag would be fierce. but you COULD DO IT. and that? is just hella cool.

oh and i guess i should just mention this. smackjeeves is doing their annual awards thing, and i dunno. if you're a fan of the comic, maybe you'd like to nominate it? inhuman's smackjeeves mirror is a few pages behind the main site, but that'd be the url you'd use to nominate if you had such a mind to. :x usually *if* inhuman gets nominated i don't find out about it until a day before the voting and so can't mobilise any votes, but maybe this time will be different?

i think that's all i've got for you! now i can finish up my coffee. delicious coffee. til next week, folks!

Inhuman update!
(and of course the inks are on DA)

there's also another Unintentional Mishaps page up!

i don't have a whole lot to say about this page. it just is what it is. i wish i could have got the lighting effects better but eh. i'll try something different next time, i guess!

anyway you may have noticed the Speedgamers Widgit on the site! this is because they're AWESOME! also they'll be doing a pokemon gaming marathon in about a week to raise money for ACT Today, but donating opened a little early. if you donate 50$ right now, you can name one of the starter pokemon :O if you donate 25, you can name a trainer. check it out, cause it's for a good cause. details are at The Speedgamers' Site.

back in the inhumanverse, this week kyo answered questions about religions in space, species food allergies, half-blood racism, hugs, 90s rappers, the shard and music.

this week's fanart is from Steph, Hazard, Wing Commander Rudoji, XMantisX and Dawn. wooo

All this week's art safe for work )

oh and last month's fundraiser? SUCCESS! not everyone used the chipin widgit to donate, but it totally was! so donors, hang tight while i finish up the sticker design for y'all - and then i'll shoot an email your way. non-donors? hang tight, because i'll have data on Morbacks up later this week and be working on another page of Fairy Tale later this month!

tomorrow venus lines up with the sun all pretty for the last time in any of our lifespans :O if you've got nice clear weather, you really should check it out!

that's all i got. later, space cadets.

Inhuman update!
(and the inks are over on DA)

i'll try to be really brief this week, because it's alf's bday and i'd rather be spending time with him so yeah :o

okay as a huge shocker, i actually updated the fanart archives. there were somewhere int he vacinity of 90+ pics waiting to go up. THEYRE UP NOW THOUGH. give it a little browse. i also finally got around to updating my art archives, so there's that too. and there's a new fanfic by coyote caliente and a couple of icons floating about.

the chipin was a rousing success :O i'll be sending out an e-mail monday to the people who contributed, asking if they want a drawing or a sticker. keep in mind these stickers are going to be exclusive to monthly doners - you can't buy them in the shop and i won't be uploading the art to them. the only way to see one of these stickers is to contribute to the chipins at the end of the month! but yes. the slightest clue i will give, and that is this: it is sort of forensicsy related.

but there IS new art this week for everyone to enjoy (since i'm updating the galleries again) and here it is!

all safe for work. well mostly. kyo's getting drunk in some of these. )

and uhm, i believe that's it :o i drew a little filler this week for villain. which if you aren't reading, you totally should be.

Inhuman update
(and the inks are right here)

hello my fine freaky friends. i haven't a ton of time to talk, so i'll abbreviate my alliterations and get to it.

first of all, sokki torka has issued a casting call for bit parts and one major part in Unintentional Mishaps. you can learn more about it (and how to get your character into his comic) by clicking here.

secondly, i am officially out of brown and a few other colours. the pens i ordered from pendeavours never arrived. you can read a little on my breakdown of pendeavours vs ordering directly from japan here. if you're interested in starting a marker collection or already use markers it's probably worth a peek.

and thirdly, one of my all-time favourite scifi artists died on the 4th. ralph mcquarrie, your work inspired generations of nerds and artists. you will be missed.

one of these days i'll upload art and stuff to the site. just like one of these days the new interface will be finished. blarg D:

some estute folks may have noticed a funds tally under the please-tip image on the main page. just fyi, that's not exclusively tips. if you commission me to draw for you or buy something from the shop, those funds also count towards the tally :o just makin sure that's clear.

i have a new page for you
it's right here in my hands and on my hard drive
but for some reason, my site keeps rejecting my login and telling me it is out of space (it is not) so i can't seem to get it uploaded D:

for now, you can view it on tumblr.

The page is up on the site now! and here are the DA inks, if your heart so desires. sorry bout that - i was trying to upload while the server was trying to back itself up.

also, ask kyo has moved to tumblr and is undergoing a few changes. but feel free to ask him anything! more complicated questions may not get an image, though.

(sabrous is also down, for an unrelated issue. wolfwings is off dancin it up at a con, and he'll fix it as soon as he regains conciousness XD)

The following websites will be going dark tomorrow in protest of SOPA (that is, if the script works):

-Inhuman mirror on
-War Buddies mirror on
-12 Hours on
-my tumblr
-"FF7 House"
-The Mewtwo Museum
-the cial infodump site

they'll all be back up after the strike ends.
for more information on the strike, including how to join it and (for americans) how to make your voice heard, visit

if you somehow live under a rock and don't know what SOPA is, let me sum it up for you.

if you make a blog entry about how you hated the latest twilight movie?
the people who own that movie can have your website removed. no warning, no notification. bam, it's gone. entire site.
along with any site linking to it.

if you make fun of a really bad webcomic?
the owner of that webcomic can have your mockery yanked from the internet. anyone who links to your mockeries has their sites killed too! and anyone who complains about it? bam, they're gone! it's like an all-day every-day deviantart mod fest! woops, SOPA would have had me for that comment too.

if you make a fan-page for your favourite star wars character? SOPA would let george lucas kill it without so much as a sideways glance at you. and anyone linking to it gets their site destroyed as well. and i'd probably get in trouble for implying george lucas doesn't like star wars fans...

did you write a SAUCY doctor who fanfic?
SOPA lets your fanfic be removed from the internet. it lets the site that hosted your fanfic be removed. it lets anyone who linked to it have their sites removed. no more fanfiction!

did your band do a cover of a more well-known band's work?
SOPA lets that band remove your cover of their song, have your site taken down, and have the sites of any fans who've graciously promoted you taken down as well. that includes clubs you may have played at...

sound fair? fuck no, and it'd destroy the internet as we know it. SOPA also does a lot of other nasty things under the guise of "stopping piracy" online. it is very uncool and would ultimately make the internet in the USA much like the internet in China. and me? i'd disappear just for saying that...

for now you can see it on nabyn if you're really impatient, but nabyn files for some reason have to be a lower quality than i like to save at.

the site will be back as...soon as haxar wakes up and sees i broke everything? :B ahahahaaaaaaa i'm a genius HOW DOES THIS EVEN HAPPEN

DISREGARD THAT it looks like the server rebooted itself to fix the horrors i visited upon it. you can see the page on the regular site now.

"real" blog post forthcoming...
not_fun: sprite by brass (cial clever plot plan sprite)
okay, so the server move has been completed. everything is now hosted with haxar, and seems to be running a bit faster. it'll go faster still when wolfwings and i finally have free time that overlaps to work on the new layout.

there's really only two things still busted.
1- the admin section of the sunyshore pokemart. be careful placing orders, as gin can't access them at the moment. hopefully this will be fixed soon.
2- the inhuman wiki. we need to install mediawiki on the new server before it works. no biggie, just. you can't get to it right now.

at the moment my ftp is acting wonky, so i can't get in to update the site with this BUT... there is also a new page of Unintentional Mishaps to tide you over until this weekend.

alley oop, up up and away.
not_fun: by ziaheart (cial facepalm)
after allowing haxardagron @twitter to examine the inner workings of the site, some conclusions have been reached.

1- there was some php running amok, specifically mediawiki. haxar disabled mediawiki to see if that helped.
2- disabling mediawiki helped, marginally. the site is still going down, though. haxar's assertation is that it is not any of my sites overloading the server but some other user.

since dreamhost has repeatedly told me it was my fault (and we know now it wasn't) and insisted i pay them 190$ for a VPS to fix it, i'm pretty pissed off. tydusis pegged it when he said it sounded like the Ferengi had come back in time to take over dreamhost. the memory is either being intentionally throttled or they're just allowing some other user to choke all of the other sites on the server without repercussion. either one is pretty shitty admining.

so at the moment i'm talking to a couple people who have offered to host. i'm looking for a nice combo of accountability, affordability, and willingness to help because tbh i'm not the most knowledgable of webmasters. to compare it to automobile ownership, i know how to drive the thing, change a battery, change the oil, and change a tire but nothing fancy. i'm going to need serious help to move anything that involves a database. there's a zencart and a forum both running on there - i'm worried about both of those. i also have a wiki database i saved before we broke it.

the sites themselves used 70gb of bandwith last month. i'd prefer more than that, because there's slow months and then there's heavy months. unlimited would be best. the sites also take up about 20gb of space, but again, more is always good. especially because between sunyshore and inhuman we're always adding more data and images. haxar said something about memory spiking at 9cpu? but that's A) on a shared server and B) i'm not sure what that really means.

SO. there's the specs. i'm writing to dreamhost now asking for at least a partial refund of the 2-year hosting plan i JUST paid for. i'm really disappointed in them, because they used to be a really good host. but this shake-down for VPS customers is really just shit. a partial refund means at least i can give gin back some of the $$ she fronted for it. blarf.
not_fun: cial scowl (cial scowl really)
let's talk about issues i'm having with the site.

some people might have noticed my site keeps going down. not a lot of people but y'know. it keeps going down. a lot. and that means it drags down too. basicly my whole account just keeps going down.

now i've contacted dreamhost about 15 times over this. the only answer they can give me is that the site is taking up too much of the memory allotted to users. and me, i find this really strange for a few reasons.

1- memory is allotted via users, so i set it so that each site (demon-sushi, sunyshore, etc) have their own users. this should have fixed it and it didn't.
2- there have been no major site changes, and yet this problem JUST started.
3- there has been no major spike in site traffic either.
4- dreamhost says that it's a one-two punch from both inhuman and sunyshore. sunyshore gets a lot of traffic but shouldn't chomp memory like this, especially when gin is taking orders via the community and NOT the shop itself.

i've tried to check the memory usage via putty, but dreamhost's wiki on how to do that is broken i guess? i get an error when i input the command they tell you to, seems like there's a space missing or added where there shouldn't be one or something. i don't know, i cop to the fact that i'm not at all adept with anything remotely command prompt related. i know how to handle the MUD, sort of, and i know HTML. that's about it.

so at the moment i'm stuck constantly waiting on dreamhost tech support to respond to me. this sucks, because they never actually TELL ME what's eating the memory, they just tell me to upgrade to a VPS. i do not want to upgrade to a VPS (for 190$ a year) when the problem could possibly be addressed for free. y'know?

if there are any adept geeks out there who could lend me a hand, it'd be greatly appriciated. something must be broken or running amok, because it wasn't doing this in november and there've been no significant changes since then.

in short, ffffffff.
